In the UK we love our sweets. Every generation can remember what their favourite sweets were growing up. The taste, scent, texture all evoke happy memories from childhood.
Benson’s Sweet Shop is a family business and we all have a
love of sweets. You could say it’s in the blood. The name
‘Benson’ originates from my great grandmother,
Jessie Benson. Jessie had two loves in life; her black poodle,
Nikki and Chocolate. My grandpa would always have a packet of
Polo’s in his pocket and my granny used to make Coconut Ice to
her own special recipe.
In the 50’s my dad’s favourite sweets were Aniseed Balls, Pear Drops, Kali (what we now know as Sherbet or Crystals), Hard Liquorice Sticks, Halfpenny Chews, Flying Saucers and Wine Gums. His sweet tooth is still just as strong today where he loves a Dark Chocolate Fondant Banana and Haribo Jelly Snakes. My mum was partial to a Fry’s Chocolate Cream bar and Turkish Delight, along with Newberry Fruits at Christmas.
In the 80’s my brother and I would get excited about our weekly trip to the local sweet shop for a Pick ‘n’ Mix. The mix included White Mice, Wham Bars, Anglo Bubbly, Fruit Salads, Cola Bottles, Milk Bottles and Highland Toffee Bars.
I have taken my passion for sweets and opened my first store in Nottingham in November 2019. In store we have a huge range of confectionery so that everyone can find their favourites from years gone by right up to the present day in a fun, friendly environment.
We sell Traditional Sweets, Retro Sweets, Sweet Hampers, Pick ‘n’ Mix (with over 70 different sweets), Handmade Fudge, a Belgium Chocolate Truffle counter, Premium Liquorice (sourced from across Europe), Jelly Belly, Harry Potter and a huge range of American Candy and Soda.
New products arrive weekly so there is always something to tantalise your tastebuds!
Whether you are treating yourself or buying a sweet gift, pop in and you’ll be sure of a warm welcome from the Benson’s team.
We look forward to meeting you and hope that we will become the sweet shop of future memories.Best Wishes
